Known as "The Little Magician" back home, having a brilliant year in 1999; which culminated in him being named The Scottish Division 1 Player of the Year and the Edinburgh Evening News Sports Personality of the Year.Russell represented Trinidad & Tobago at the youth level. His professional ball had a distinctive Portugese flavour. Was first signed to, and played ball with Academica, FC Porto, and Boavista.
