Bio: George Cadle Price was born the eldest of ten children on January 15th, 1919 in Belize City. Price attended St. Johns College and studied briefly for the priesthood in a Guatemalan seminary.
In 1944 Price entered Municipal Politics, by 1947 he had become a member of Belize Citys Town Board and its mayor from 1958 to 1962. He was a founding member of Peoples United Party (P.U.P.)
In 1961, Price became first minister. The title changed to premier in 1964 when London granted Belize - formerly British Honduras - internal self-government.Price became countrys first Prime Minister of Independent Belize on September 21st, 1981.
Pup lost the 1984 election to United Democratic Party UDP, price was replaced as Prime Minister by Manuel Esquivel. His party, PUP won power Won back power in the September 1989 General Elections and then lost in the June 30th 1993 General Elections. Price became Leader of the Opposition, later relinquishing this position to become leader Emeritus of the Peoples United Party. After a victory by his party in the 27th August 1998 General Elections, Price became Senior Minister.
Price never married and has no children, he is known for his simple lifestyle. Price was awarded the (The Order of the Caribbean Community) by the Caribbean Community CARICOM and became the first national hero of Belize on September 19, 2000. Five stamps were issued in his honor.
